Nagabandham - The Secret Treasure continues its underwhelming run at the Indian box office. On its 17th day of release (Friday, July 17), the Virat Karrna and Nabha Natesh starrer added approximately ₹78 lakh net across India, taking its total domestic net collection to ₹21.11 crore.
The film's total India gross now stands at ₹24.89 crore, while its overseas gross remains negligible. Despite being mounted on a reported budget of ₹100 crore, the film has failed to recover even a quarter of its production cost, with recovery standing at just 21.11%.
Critical Reception and Performance
Directed by Abhishek Nama, the film features an ensemble cast including Virat Karrna (Rudra), Nabha Natesh (Parvathi), Jagapathi Babu, Rishabh Sawhney (Abdali), Mahesh Manjrekar, Murali Sharma, and Iswarya Menon. The film was produced by Kishore Annapureddy and Nishitha Nagireddy under NIK Studios & Abhishek Pictures.
Critics have been largely unkind to the mythological fantasy. India Today gave it 1.5 stars, calling it a film "lost in its own maze" where "weak writing and thin emotional stakes" overshadow its visual ambition. The Times of India awarded it 2 stars, criticizing its "overstuffed screenplay, inconsistent visual effects and an exhausting runtime." The Hindu described it as a "loud, VFX-heavy bloodbath" that fails to make up for its divisive core.
While the film's visual scale and production design have been acknowledged, the screenplay and direction have been heavily criticized. The long runtime of over three hours, weak character development, and reliance on excessive violence have been major points of contention.
Declining Performance
Nagabandham had a decent opening weekend, with collections of ₹3.40 crore on day 1, ₹3.05 crore on day 2, and ₹3.65 crore on day 3. However, the film witnessed a massive drop on its first Monday, collecting only ₹1.55 crore. The decline continued throughout the week, and the film now struggles to even cross the ₹1 crore mark per day.
With collections now reduced to single-digit lakhs, the film's theatrical run is effectively over. It is unlikely to add any significant amount in the coming days, and it has already been declared a flop at the Indian box office. The film serves as a reminder that ambition and scale alone cannot guarantee success without strong storytelling.
