Varavu Box Office Collection Day 1: Joju George Scores Career-Best Opening With Rs 1.55 Crore
Joju George's action thriller 'Varavu' has taken a strong start at the box office, collecting an estimated Rs 1.55 crore net in India on its opening day, marking the actor's career-best opening. The film, directed by Shaji Kailas, also grossed Rs 4.35 crore worldwide on day 1.

Varavu, the much-anticipated action thriller starring Joju George and directed by Shaji Kailas, has taken a solid start at the Indian box office on its opening day. The film, which released on July 16, 2026, has registered Joju George's career-best opening, surpassing the collections of his previous releases.

On its 1st day, the film has collected an estimated Rs 1.55 crore net in India, according to early trade estimates. The film also performed well in the international markets, with the worldwide gross collection crossing the Rs 4.35 crore mark on day 1. The film recorded around 35,000 ticket sales in India, with 10,000 of those coming from advance bookings, indicating decent pre-release buzz.

Trade analysts note that the film's strong opening can be attributed to Joju George's growing stardom and the reunion of the actor with director Shaji Kailas after several years. The film had little competition at the box office, which paved the way for a strong start.

Joju George plays the role of Polachan, also known as Poly, a wealthy planter who returns to his native land after being released from prison to confront old rivalries and settle unfinished business. The film marks the first collaboration between Joju George and veteran director Shaji Kailas.

The film features an ensemble cast including Vani Viswanath, Murali Gopy, Arjun Ashokan, Saniya Iyappan, Vincy Aloshious, Sukanya, Baburaj, Deepak Parambol, and Abhimanyu Shammy Thilakan in pivotal roles. The screenplay, penned by A.K. Sajan, has been appreciated for its gritty take on the high-range planter rivalry.

The film's technical team includes Sam C.S. as the music composer, S. Saravanan as the cinematographer, and Shameer Muhammed as the editor. The action choreography, handled by a team of eight stunt masters including Stunt Silva, Kalai Kingson, and Phoenix Prabu, has been a major highlight of the film. Produced by Naisy Reji under the banner of Olga Productions, the film is set against the backdrop of Kerala's high ranges.

Early reviews for the film have been mixed. While Joju George's performance and the action sequences have received praise, some critics have called the screenplay predictable and dated. The film's performance in the coming days will depend on word-of-mouth and its ability to sustain momentum during the weekdays. Despite the mixed reviews, the strong opening day collection has given the film a solid foundation to build upon.
