Alia Bhatt and Sharvari's Alpha has wrapped up its second week at the Indian box office on a highly disappointing note. On its 14th day of release (second Thursday), the spy action thriller collected a paltry ₹0.60 crore net in India. This marks yet another steep decline for the YRF Spy Universe film, which had an underwhelming second week overall.
The day-wise breakdown paints a grim picture for the big-budget actioner. After a decent opening week of ₹48.4 crore, the film's second week collections totalled just ₹8.95 crore, representing a staggering 81.5% drop. The film's total India net collection now stands at ₹57.35 crore, with the India gross collection at ₹67.67 crore and worldwide gross at ₹95.04 crore.
A Disappointing Performance Despite Star-Studded Cast and Crew
The film's performance is particularly shocking given the pedigree of the team involved. Directed by Shiv Rawail in his feature debut, the film was produced by Aditya Chopra under the prestigious Yash Raj Films banner. The film boasted a talented ensemble cast including Alia Bhatt, Sharvari, Anil Kapoor, and Bobby Deol, with a special cameo by Hrithik Roshan. The technical crew was equally impressive, featuring cinematographer Rubais, editor Aarif Sheikh, and music composers Rohansh & Abeer for songs with background score by Sanchit and Ankit Balhara.
The film's inability to maintain momentum despite its star power and the YRF Spy Universe brand has raised questions about the franchise's future. According to trade analysts, the film has officially been declared a 'Flop' at the Indian box office, with producers expected to lose around ₹25 crore on the ₹100 crore budget.
With its theatrical run now effectively over, Alpha serves as a cautionary tale about the risks of high-budget filmmaking in today's market. The film's performance, while slightly better than the YRF Spy Universe's previous outing War 2 which saw an 85.86% drop, is still a massive disappointment for one of Bollywood's most successful franchises.
