Alia Bhatt and Sharvari's Alpha has hit a new low at the Indian box office. On its 15th day of release (third Friday), the spy action thriller collected a paltry ₹0.15 crore net in India. This marks a massive 75% drop from its previous day's collection of ₹0.60 crore, indicating that the film has completely exhausted its theatrical run.
The day-wise breakdown tells a story of a rapid decline. The film's first week saw decent collections of ₹47.45 crore, followed by a second week total of just ₹8.37 crore. The total India net collection now stands at ₹56.53 crore, with India gross collections at ₹67.34 crore and worldwide gross at ₹93.42 crore.
A Star-Studded Affair That Failed to Deliver
The film's performance is particularly shocking given the pedigree of the team involved. Directed by Shiv Rawail in his feature debut, the film was produced by Aditya Chopra under the prestigious Yash Raj Films banner. The film boasted a talented ensemble cast including Alia Bhatt, Sharvari, Anil Kapoor, and Bobby Deol, with a special cameo by Hrithik Roshan. The technical crew was equally impressive, featuring cinematographer Rubais, editor Aarif Sheikh, and music composers Rohansh & Abeer for songs with background score by Sanchit and Ankit Balhara.
Despite recovering a significant portion of its budget through non-theatrical rights, the film has failed to maintain momentum at the box office. According to trade analysts, the film has officially been declared a 'Flop' at the Indian box office, with producers expected to lose around ₹43 crore on the ₹100 crore budget.
With its theatrical run now effectively over, Alpha serves as a cautionary tale about the risks of high-budget filmmaking in today's market. The film's inability to connect with audiences despite its star power and the YRF Spy Universe brand has raised serious questions about the future of the franchise.
