The latest installment in the iconic horror franchise, Evil Dead Burn, is off to a promising start at the box office. After a solid opening, the film saw a significant surge in collections on its second day, driven by positive word-of-mouth and the weekend crowd.
On Day 2, which was the first Saturday since its release, Evil Dead Burn earned an estimated Rs 4.45 crore net in India. This marks a strong 34.8 percent growth from its opening day collection of Rs 3.30 crore on Friday. With this jump, the film's total net collection in India has reached Rs 7.75 crore, while the gross collection stands at Rs 9.21 crore after two days.
The film, directed by Sebastien Vanicek and co-written by Florent Bernard, saw an increase in screen count as well, being showcased across 3,633 shows on Saturday, up from 3,573 on its opening day. The occupancy also saw a healthy uptick, with the film recording an overall 27.4 percent occupancy on Day 2 compared to 20.2 percent on Friday.
The English version led the charge, collecting Rs 2.75 crore with a 33 percent occupancy, followed by the Hindi version which earned Rs 1.10 crore with a 21 percent occupancy. The Tamil and Telugu versions also contributed to the day's total, with Rs 0.35 crore and Rs 0.25 crore respectively.
A Look at the Cast and Crew
The film's ensemble cast has been a talking point, with several critics praising their performances. The movie features Hunter Doohan as Joseph, Luciane Buchanan as Thya, and stars Souheila Yacoub as the protagonist Alice. Other key cast members include Erroll Shand as Edgar Price, Tandi Wright as Susan, George Pullar as Will, and Maude Davey as Polly.
Behind the camera, the film benefits from the expertise of Philip Lozano as the Cinematographer and Maxime Caro as the Editor, while the legendary Sam Raimi served as a producer alongside Rob Tapert and executive producers including Bruce Campbell.
Outlook for the Weekend
With the positive momentum on Day 2, trade analysts are projecting an even stronger performance on Day 3. The film is expected to close its opening weekend with a total of around Rs 15 crore or more in India, which would be considered a superb opening for a Hollywood horror film in the territory. The film also performed well in key urban centers, with Pune leading the occupancy charts at 39.5 percent for the Hindi version.
As the summer horror movie boom continues, Evil Dead Burn appears to be capitalizing on the audience's appetite for visceral, practical gore and intense scares, staying true to the legacy of its franchise.
